Ferro the Sharp Shinned Hawk

Ferro was brought into Ravensbeard on Friday night, April 15th. A family had found him injured behind their barn.

He was apparently attacked mid-air by another hawk (?) who grabbed him on either side of his hip pulling off huge chunks of his side. Though he had been out with these injuries for several days, he had no infection and no maggots. He was very emaciated and very calm, which is extraordinary for an accipiter hawk. He is in a lot of pain. He will be x-rayed for possible broken bones in his wing.

He needs to regenerate skin, flesh, muscle, tendons, ligaments, the works!!!

Every prayer and healing energy will help this very determined hawk. We have never seen an animal with such serious injuries so focused on total recovery.

April 22 UPDATE: Ferro Xrays reveal a broken humerous bone in the right wing. He is scheduled for surgery on May5th. We are trying to set the bone energetically. All prayers welcomed!

Ferro the Sharp Shinned Hawk

Ferro passed over to Spirit during his surgery on Thursday, May 5th around 1 pm. When Dr.s Caliri and Rosenberg had him under anesthesia they discovered that there was massive infection in the bones of both his humerus and also in his right knee. They asked permission to practice setting and pinning bones on Ferro after he died. We agreed to this, which will help so many others in the future.

Jayna Nelson checked in with Kristine Flones about Ferro's surgery late Thursday afternoon. She had just been out walking in nature and Ferro had come to her in a dreamlike way. He had told her that he was free and very happy. He also told her that he was very proud because he had been a teacher!

Every animal that comes into Ravensbeard for care is unique and brings teachings for each of us. Ferro showed us what strength and stamina look like. He allowed our Veterinarians to work on him after his death so that they could learn. He taught us all how big a heart can be.

Braveheart the Red Tail Hawk

Braveheart has earned his name. He arrived at Ravensbeard dehydrated and very skinny. We tube-fed him and helped him to gain his strength so that he could withstand surgery. He has endured two surgeries to have the humerus bone in his left wing repaired.

Today, December 9th the pins were removed after six weeks. Despite many prayers and treatment with Symphytum, a homeopathic remedy commonly known as "Bone-knit", Braveheart's bone is still not totally healed. There are some "nicks" and spaces where the bone hasn't knit itself together.

This is a place where your prayers can be most effective. We will continue to administer the Homeopathic remedy, and with your prayers we believe that his bone can mend. Please visualize the bone becoming a complete and functioning bone once again so that our Brave fellow can fly again. It helps to send him love and encouragement, too.

      Jupiter the Red Tail Hawk

Jupiter has come in with multiple symptoms, which have been very confusing. He was found sitting on the guardrail of a highway in Ulster County, NY. A rehabilitator was able to walk up to him and pick him up with no problem, a sure sign that a hawk is very ill or badly injured.

Jupiter has been running a fever and he has serious respiratory symptoms such as wheezing, sneezing, and sometimes, great difficulty breathing. His blood and fecal matter are being tested at the Vet to help us determine the nature of the problem. He is a very sick fellow.

Jupiter the Red Tail Hawk died at 4 am on Dec. 15th. Those of us who have worked with Jupiter over the last 4 weeks are in tears today. We are relieved that this painful battle is over for him and that he has returned to his Spirit Home. He will no doubt continue to teach us much.

His body was sent to the New York State Pathology Lab to check for poison. We believe that he died of rat poisoning.

Red the Screech Owl

Red is recovering from a severe blow to his right eye. He is just starting to open the eye a little bit. We are not sure if he will regain the use of this eye, which he needs to fly and navigate in the wild. Please pray for the return of his eyesight.

Red the Screech Owl is having more trouble with her eye. It seems to be sinking into the socket. There may be a retinal detachment. It is especially helpful to pray for her for the next three days, Dec 17-20th.

We ask that you offer the healing to her very gently and allow her to take what she needs. She is a very high spirit here to teach us something important.

Barred Owl

This Barred Owl arrived at the Ravensbeard Benefit on Dec. 11th. She will go into the Vet tomorrow, we hope, for xrays. It looks like she has sustained a severe blow to the head somewhere around her left eye/beak area. She had bled from her nose and when she came into had a lot of mucous draining out of her nose. She doesn't seem to want to open her mouth. We don't want to try feeding her until we have an xray to see if she broke her jaw. She is being supported with Sub-q fluids and homeopathic Arnica at this time. She hasn't told us her name yet. She will also receive some Cranial Sacral Therapy. Your prayers are urgently needed.

The Barred Owl passed home to Spirit on the night of the 12th in the most gentle, peaceful way after receiving the Cranial Sacral Therapy session. She was breathing deeply and softly asleep when she died.

Her body was sent to the New York State Pathology Lab to determine if she was also poisoned.

 JUPITER SLAIN

by David Holden

largest of the hawk-planets

we hovered we orbited

around you as moons

reflecting your valiant light

oh great predator fallen as prey

to our own poisonous blight

we make our tear-stained promise to learn

and set things right

somehow we will atone become at-one

absorbed by

your feathered might

(fly free now little dog-soldier

to the Thunder-Beings

who inspired you

tell Them in clouds of sage and sweet-grass

of your valiant honor

and of our Thanks for your visit

and great Teaching)
