Special Donor of the Year 2009
Anna Ffrench

Anna Ffrench accepting her certificate 11-09
Ravensbeard is proud to announce our Special Donor of the Year Award to Anna Ffrench, a first time camper from this past season. Anna had her 10th birthday on September 14th and decided to donate all her birthday money to Ravensbeard.
This is an exceptional gesture of maturity, generosity and compassion. Not only did she give away all her gifts but she also asked some of her friends and their families to contribute as well. All told, the total cash amount was $168.
This is an amazing child with a heart of gold. She, her family and friends came over to deliver the gift in person. Anna has had a love for birds, especially birds of prey since childhood and has proven to be lifelong friend to all animals.
We are thoroughly impressed with Anna, her sister Camilla, Kaleigh Garraffa who are Ravensbeard campers from 2009 and Siena Howenstein for contributing money they raised for the health and preservation of our native wildlife.

Anna Ffrench and Fern, The Barred Owl
Thank you, every one of you!

Scholarships for the New York State Wildlife
Rehab Conference
Ravensbeard awarded three scholarships for new people to attend our State Conference. New York boasts one of the best in the country. We were pleased to offer work/study scholarships for room and board to Robin Blier Saugerties, Rebecca Minew of Catskill and Ron Youngs of Kingston. Robin, Rebecca and her husband Chad, and Jan Cohn also took the DEC Exam and are now legal rehabilitators in the State of New York. We congratulate all of them for their hard work and big hearts.

Volunteer Drivers Needed!
Most of our work with injured and orphaned wildlife happens during the breeding season which is roughly April through August. During this period Ravens can sometimes be overwhelmed with calls and emergencies. We are looking for a few people who would like to volunteer as drivers to pick up animals, take them to the Vet's and such. You would need your own car. This is a great service that a retiree could provide. It's for that once in awhile time when there is just too much going on!

Rebecca Minew of Catskill, NY found HELIOS the Red Tail Hawk on Rte 9W. Here she is handing the hawk over to Ravensbeard, and very happy to have found help for him. Rebecca and her husband Tad were inspired to become licensed wildlife rehablitators with Ravensbeard after taking in Helios. We warmly welcome them into our circle. |
