"Ho Mitakuye Oyasin" COME & MEET US

is the Lakota phrase that translates as "all my relations". In using these words we honor our connectedness to all life, and the sacredness of the entire circle of life.

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the Ravensbeard website. In exploring the site we hope that you will find our dedication to wildlife, to finding ways to coexist with all life on this magnificent planet of ours. Our intention is honor all life and to celebrate it! We do this through our rehabilitation of injured and orphaned wildlife, through education and community outreach.

There is a spiritual center to our work that guides us as we try to do better for our wounded creatures and for the animals we live with here in Woodstock and the mid-Hudson Valley of New York. As rehabilitators we try to listen to the animals and to our hearts so that we can be open to more possibilities to help these creatures. We work with Homeopathy, flower essences, with animal communicators, medical intuits and energy healers in addition to conventional Western medicine. The results have been miraculous on more than one occasion, as you will find in our "Stories" section.

You can participate in this work through our Prayer Project and Healing Circle where you will find photos and information on animals who are currently in need of your prayers and help.

If you find our work interesting and would like to know more we hope you will contact us. We love to do programs about wildlife and the environment in the schools and in our community. Let's co-create something together!

    Some of the programs are:

  • Co-Existing with Black Bears

  • Wildlife Babies: Who Needs Your Help?

  • Baby Birds

  • Beavers, Nature's Architects and Chief Water Engineers

If you would like to support the work of Ravensbeard, that would make us very happy!!! Wildlife rehabilitators are licensed by the State and Federal governments. By law, we are not allowed to charge for our services. We function through the generosity of our community. Each year we answer hundreds of phone calls and offer care to hundreds of animals. Ravensbeard is a not-for-profit corporation in the State of New York. We are pleased to be able to give you a receipt for tax deductions for your donations to our work.

We wish you long life, honey in the heart,

Ellen Kalish, Stacy Nagelberg, Karen Marhafer, Wendy Gold, Barry Knight & Vivian Beatrice

Mission Statement & Goals

" Promote community awareness, education, appreciation, compassion and acceptance of the natural circle of life.

" Offer members of the community a "hands-on" opportunity to work with many different species within the animal kingdom in order to experience their true nature.

" Empower, honor and respect each other and ourselves.

Short Term Objectives

1. Construction of aviaries and housing for animals under care as well as for some unreleasable species to be used for education.
